NY, NY

New York, New York...a city so nice they named it twice.  And it was nice.  We had a really great time.  It was really cool to actually see the things and places that you had only heard of and seen on tv/movies.

On the airport shuttle to take our first Subway experience.  We were so excited we could hardly stand it, can't you tell?

Our first morning in New York and one of the only pictures of me with my hair down.  I think I only lasted about a half hour.  It was SO hot.

Chris in front of the Chrysler building.  The buildings were just as massive as I imagined them.

Our first stop (after we got breakfast at Dunkin Doughnuts, of course) was the Empire State Building.  After paying, standing in a long line, having our picture taken by a cheesy NY backdrop, taking two elevators and walking up eight flights of stairs, we finally made it to the top.  It was so worth it.  The view was breathtaking.

This was the only time we saw the Statue of Liberty.  We just never made it down there so this had to do.

This is either Queens Bridge or Brooklyn Bridge. I can't remember exactly.

For some reason, we couldn't stop quoting Elf while we were here.

Me in front of the Macy's the worlds largest store and when they say largest, they weren't lying.  It was massive.  It was nine stories and had a couple food courts.

We missed Vampire Weekend by a couple months.  It would've been fun to see what it looks like inside and see a great concert or sports game.

We were so close to Tim Gunn and Parsons School of Design where they film Project Runway.  I'm kicking myself for not trying to find Mood so we could say "thank you, Mood."  We might've run into him there.

Times Square.  It was crazy awesome!

There were tons of people everywhere.  If you look closely at this picture, you might find a young Michael Jackson.

We walked into a large crowd of people who were crowded around someone.  Chris was like "oh, that's Drew Brees" and I was like "who?"  He's just the quarterback from the reigning NFL champs New Orleans Saints, that's all.  He was promoting the new Madden 11 game.

Mr. Drew Brees himself

They were throwing out video games to the crowd so Chris got up in the action to see if he could snag one.  Can you find him in the pic?

I stayed behind and as I was standing there, a video game came flying in my direction and I grabbed it!  It was so cool!!!

Come to find out, they were actually filming a commercial for Madden 11.

The Hershey's store was pretty much heaven for me.

That's some serious chocolate.

Bottom's up!

Radio City Music Hall

Magnolia Bakery.  You know that I'm crazy 'bout these cupcakes, cousin.  Watch below if you don't know what I'm talking about.

NBC Studios!!!

With the NBC peacock.

We wanted to buy everything that had anything to do with on of our favorite TV shows Friday Night Lights.  This Panther jacket was awesome!!!

(Spoiler alert) Go Panthers seasons one through three!!!

The famous Rockefeller Plaza.  Too bad it wasn't winter so we could ice skate and see the big Christmas tree.

Outside the Lego store.  A big apple.  Get it...big apple?  Ha!

The alligator store.

The famous Waldorf Astoria.  Our hotel was right across the street.

See...the Waldorf Astoria from our hotel room.  Speaking of hotels, my brother Todd works for the Marriott so we were able to get a discount on this fancy Marriott in Manhattan.  We felt very high class.

We couldn't come to New York and not see a Broadway play.  We talked about different shows and ended up going to Rock of Ages.  It was great!  It was a play with the music of the 80's big hair bands like Journey, Twisted Sister, etc.  We had a great time!

Outside the theater

It was pretty late when we got out of the show and Times Square was just as busy, if not busier, than earlier in the day.

While the Hershey store was my heaven, the NBA store was Chris's heaven.

We ran into Kevin Garnett in the NBA store (nevermind the fact he was built out of Legos).

Michael Jordan!!!

Larry Bird!!!

Kevin Garnett again but only his hand.

Instead of giving fives, Shaq can give tens with one hand.  It was ginormous.

Awww...love!

I'm pointing to the Apple Store behind me, not the bikes, the van or the taxi.

Inside the Apple Store.  It was an electronic zoo but super cool.

FAO Schwartz!!! There was a real life Toy Soldier guarding the door.

Zotz and Sixlets:  FAO Schweetz

They had pure Runts bananas!

Then, like a dream come true, we got to play the BIG piano.

Chopsticks?

Heart and Soul?

Hitting the high notes

So fun!!!

It was everything we thought it was going to be and more!

We saw this Elmo on the street corner and only thinking about my nephew Cannon who loves Elmo,  I had Chris snap a picture of us together.  Right after the picture taken, I heard this low, raspy voice saying "donation please."  It totally freaked me out.  We fumbled around for a couple bucks and gave it to Elmo and walked away as fast as we could and laughed our heads off.

We took a quick stroll through Central Park.  We walked past the Central Park Zoo and called it good.  We talked about finding the Friends fountain but it wasn't worth it in the heat.

Chris by a cool statue.

We were walking down the street and Chris says "Look, it's Carnegie Hall."

We were looking for a Dominican restaruant and we happened upon David Letterman's studio.

David Letterman!

I knew that if we were close to David Letterman studios, we had to be close the Hello Deli.  David Letterman would do segments with the owner of Hello Deli, Rupert Jee where Rupert would wear an earpiece and a secret camera and Dave would tell Rupert things to say to annoy people.  The segment was a Sullivan family favorite and we love Rupert.    Click on the video to take see what I'm talking about.

Rupert Jee himself!!!

La Bandera (Rice, beans and meat)!!!  This is the typical dish from my mission, the Dominican Republic.  We found this restaurant called El Papasito and it was so authentic and delicious.  They had no AC in the restaurant which heightened the experience for me.  It's like I was back on the mission for a small moment.

I heart the DR!

This lady cracked me up.  Her pants matched her hair.  Very stylish.

Chinese take-out

In the subway.  This picture is a very accurate representation of how it feels down there.  So hot and muggy.

Happiness is a Bavarian Creme doughnut from Dunkin' Doughnuts.

Or a Chocolate Creme doughnut if you are Chris.

We too the subway down to Ground Zero and it was definitely the most poignant experience of our entire trip. The feeling there was incredible.  We walked through a memorial and it was very emotional.  They had an exhibit about the towers themselves and about those who worked inside.  They had a whole wall of missing posters for those who had not been found.  They had a window from one of the airplanes that they found in the rubble.  They had a wall with the face of everyone who passed away.  I couldn't keep my tears back.  It was such a sad moment in US history and being there made it very real.

Behind Chris is where the towers stood.  They are building a really cool monument to honor all those who lost their lives on this horrible day.  Read more about it here.
